The Mysterious Power of Heirs

For as long as the Earth has existed there have been individuals who possess incredible and inhuman abilities. Those who possess these powers have branded themselves with the title of heirs. Each heir has a unique power that only they possess and each heir's power can be greatly different then another heir. What makes these powers even more special is the fact that when the individual who possesses these powers dies, the power doesn't die with them. Instead the power leaves their bodies and searches out someone else who is compatible enough to receive the power. The power can choose anyone, from a newborn infant to an old man and it may activate itself instantly or take years for it to manifest itself. Nobody knows where these powers came from or how they choose their next host. What is known for certain is that there is a set number of heir powers in the world, but nobody has been to determine an exact number yet. In fact, not many people in the world even realize that these powers exist since a mysterious force seems to be trying to keep the existence of these powers hidden for some unknown reason

If no one is grabbing this as an origin yet, I think I'll step up to the plate pretty soon, maybe, probably, possibly, I dunno...
